I’M ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIĆ, AND THE LION IS HUNGRY... FOR FACTS ABOUT FOOTBALL

OFC qualifying to start in June
[FRI 30 JAN 2015 – 01:11:17 UTC]

The Oceania Football Confederation has announced that its qualifying tournament for the 2018 Men’s World Cup will have some modifications from the 2014 qualifiers. Like its predecessor, though, it will still open with a first round featuring American Samoa, Cook Is, Samoa, and Tonga, and it will also decide the OFC Nations Cup.

The first round will be played MON 08-MON 15 JUN 2015 at a single venue to be decided. The winning team will advance to the second round, consisting of two groups of four teams. But unlike the 2014 qualifiers, these groups will be played on a home and away basis rather than as part of a centralised tournament.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the final round. The winner of this round will be awarded the OFC Nations Cup and will play off for a place in Russia.
