Guatemala into semifinal round after Grenada-SVG draw

A 1-1 draw between
Grenada and
St Vincent-Grenadines has given the
CONCACAF first phase group E title to
Guatemala. St Vincent-Gren were minutes away from a win that would have kept their advancement hopes alive, but a 90th minute goal from Grenada substitute Clive MURRAY forced a draw. Both sides are now eight points adrift of Guatemala with only two matches remaining.

Bahamas withdraw; three way in Group C

The
Bahamas have withdrawn from
CONCACAF’s qualifiers for Brazil 2014, citing issues at the rebuilt national stadium in Nassau. Though they began their campaign brightly by defeating the
Turks-Caicos Is in their
preliminary round series, they are now pulling out of
first phase group C, which will continue with only
Panama,
Dominica, and
Nicaragua. According to reports, the new Thomas Robinson Stadium is complete but is unusable because it is still missing external interfaces such as access roads and sewage lines.

Before any of the confederational groups were drawn, the pairings for the
playoffs were set at the qualifying draw for Brazil 2014. The winner of the
AFC playoff meets the fifth placed team in the
CONMEBOL group phase, and the fourth placed team in the
CONCACAF final round will face the winner of the

UL 2011, as more than 100 nations are due to discover their path to the Men’s World Cup. The proceedings in Rio de Janeiro begin with the drawing of pairs for the intercontinental
playoffs that will involve teams from
CONCACAF,
CONMEBOL, the
AFC, and the
OFC. The teams will then be drawn into their groups one confederation at a time, beginning with
CAF and proceeding with the AFC, CONCACAF, the OFC, and finally

CONCACAF qualifying draw procedure

At the qualifying draw for Brazil 2014, the draw for the CONCACAF
first group phase and
semifinal round will be made. The five winners in the
preliminary round –
Belize,
Dominican Rep,
US Virgin Is,
St Lucia, and
Bahamas – have been assigned to the lowest pot. The six groups of the first group phase will be allocated one team from each of Pots 4-7. Then, to draw the semifinal round, the three groups will each take one team from Pot 1, one from Pot 2, and two of the first group phase winners’ slots from Pot 3.

With a 3-1 win over
Montserrat,
Belize won their delayed
CONCACAF preliminary round series and earned a place in the
first group phase. Deon MCCAULAY, who scored a hat trick in the first leg, added another goal to lead Belize to victory by an 8-3 aggregate scoreline. The second leg was played in Honduras because of a dispute in which the government of Belize refused to provide security, resulting in a temporary FIFA suspension.

The second leg of
CONCACAF preliminary series 1 is set to proceed on S

UL 2011 with FIFA’s temporary reinstatement of
Belize. The match against
Montserrat was to be played on S
UN 19 J
UN 2011, but as a result of a dispute with the Football Federation of Belize, the country’s government refused to provide security. FIFA responded by postponing the match and suspending Belize; although the suspension is now provisionally lifted, FIFA has insisted that the match be played on neutral ground to avoid the same problem recurring. San Pedro Sula, Honduras, is now the chosen venue for the second leg.
