The ten man Croatian side extended their lead through Darijo SRNA just after the interval, ending Iceland’s hopes of a first ever Men’s World Cup appearance.
• Sweden 02-04 Portugal: CRISTIANO RONALDO scored in the 50th minute to put Portugal ahead 2-0 on aggregate, but in a four minute span later in the half, Zlatan IBRAHIMOVIĆ levelled the scoreline with two goals. However, Sweden were still behind on away goals, and two further goals from Ronaldo guaranteed Portugal’s place in Brazil.
• France 03-02 Ukraine: Les Bleus lost the first leg 2-0 but had made that up by halftime of the second, as goals came from Mamadou SAKHO and Karim BENZEMA. Momentum further shifted the French way when Ukraine’s Yehven KHACHERIDI was shown a second yellow just after the interval. But the series was decided in the cruellest of fashions in the 72nd minute, as Oleh GUSEV deflected a Franck RIBÉRY cross into his own net.
