Cameroon ban for interference lifted
[FRI 26 JUL 2013 – 04:30:05 UTC]

FIFA has lifted the suspension it placed on Cameroon for government interference, clearing the way for the Indomitable Lions’ critical CAF Group I qualifier against Libya.

Cameroon was suspended on THU 04 JUL 2013 as a result of a contested election for the presidency of the Cameroon Football Federation, the aftermath of which saw security forces occupying the federation’s headquarters.

In announcing the ban, FIFA stated that it would be lifted with the start of a normalisation committee, selected by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football. The committee began work on MON 22 JUL 2013, and FIFA lifted the suspension shortly thereafter.

The away match against Libya, to be played FRI 06-TUE 10 SEP 2013, may now proceed as planned. Cameroon need only a draw to reach the playoffs.
