Sudan lose appeal over ineligible player
[SUN 24 MAR 2013 – 19:47:34 UTC]

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has denied Sudan’s appeal over a CAF group D match played SAT 02 JUN 2012, in which Sudan fielded an ineligible player. The match is awarded to Zambia 3-0 by forfeiture.

FIFA originally ruled that Saif ALI was ineligible for the match, having been sent off in the African Nations Cup quarterfinal on SAT 04 FEB 2012, also against Zambia. Ali was to have served his suspension for the Men’s World Cup qualifier, as it was Sudan’s next competitive match.

The court rejected Sudan’s argument that it was not informed of the suspension, finding that CAF did notify the Sudan Football Association. The ruling moves Zambia to the top of Group D.
