Myanmar’s 2018 ban rescinded on appeal

FIFA has allowed Myanmar back into the qualifiers for the 2018 Men’s World Cup following a successful appeal by the Myanmar Football Federation. The southeast Asian nation had been banned as a result of crowd violence at the AFC preliminary series 6 match against Oman in Yangon on THU 28 JUL 2011. Myanmar may now participate in the Russia 2018 qualifiers, but on the condition that all home matches are played in neutral territory in a different nation.

Myanmar disqualified from 2018 for crowd violence

FIFA has banned Myanmar from the qualifiers for the 2018 Men’s World Cup due to the crowd violence at the match against Oman on THU 28 JUL 2011. Spectators in Yangon began throwing objects onto the pitch late in the first half after Oman took a 2-0 lead, eventually forcing the referee to abandon the match. Oman were later deemed the winners of AFC preliminary series 6. The result eliminated Myanmar from the Brazil 2014 qualifiers, and the team now cannot compete in the qualifiers for Russia 2018.

Syria disqualified for ineligible player, Tajikistan takes place

FIFA have ruled that Syria are disqualified from the 2014 Men’s World Cup qualifiers after fielding an ineligible player in their AFC second preliminary round series against Tajikistan. George MOURAD had previously played for Sweden and therefore could not represent Syria. The decision by FIFA’s disciplinary committee is to award both legs of the series to Tajikistan by 3-0 scorelines and to reinstate the Tajiks, placing them in first phase group C in place of Syria.
Playoff draw pairs AFC-CONMEBOL and CONCACAF-OFC

The winner of the AFC playoff meets the fifth placed team in the CONMEBOL group phase, and the fourth placed team in the CONCACAF final round will face the winner of the OFC final round. The proceedings in Rio de Janeiro begin with the drawing of pairs for the intercontinental playoffs that will involve teams from CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, the AFC, and the OFC. The teams will then be drawn into their groups one confederation at a time, beginning with CAF and proceeding with the AFC, CONCACAF, the OFC, and finally UEFA.
